I've gotten a little behind on posting TRs recently, so I'm trying to get rid of the backlog. We climbed Clyde Minaret a few weeks back with Bob and Daria (Anita was there also, but did not climb the mountain due to wanting to sleep more). I don't feel like typing up any stories or descriptions, so hopefully the images speak for themselves. Enjoy!

It's funny because you asked me to take that pic w/ the register, lol.

That never stops Toxo. She nearly always has at least one hole in the ass of her climbing pants. I can't buy them fast enough to keep up.

Wow, those summit shots look like they're shot from a plane.

Man, that Shitler can be be a goofy looking mofo sometimes.

The Moose is Loose!
NSFW: show
The approach is really straightforward (assuming you have a trail map so you don't end up on the wrong trail), though it is LONG. I never would have agreed to this climb if I had bothered to add up the distances beforehand. According to Bob's map and basic arithmetic skills (and confirmed by mine) just getting from the TH to the lake at the base of the route is ~10 miles. You know, sloggin' (but at least the scenery is spectacular). The only part that is even kinda tricky is getting onto the ledge that crosses over the top of the chimney to get on the Rock Route. The chimney itself supposedly goes at 5.4 or 5.5 and proved to be greater than the freesoloing safety threshold of Bob and Daria. Obviously, I knew this was the case going in, so Toxo and I went the "right" way and waited patiently on the ledge for them to get spit out by the chimney and follow us up the sensible way. There is probably less snow now, so getting onto the diagonal ledge is more straightforward than when we did it. Basically just head straight up the slabs from the lake (Cecelia?) toward the chimney, which is hard to miss. As you approach it, veer left and up across loose talus until you reach the obvious diagonal ledge going up and right toward the pillar above the chimney. Follow it. You'll go through a small notch and drop down to the top of the chimney. Enjoy the view of the glacier before turning left and scrambling up the obvious chute. There are lots of options of varying difficulties (as well as plenty of loose rock!), so just get your scramble on until you're on the summit ridge. I climbed some 4th/low_5th stuff, but it can probably be kept at class 3 if you're careful. Getting onto the ridge is a little tricky (maybe 4th class?), but not bad. Go left and traverse to the summit. On the way you will have to downclimb a 10-12ft 4th class section consisting of a couple of cracks with some nice exposure on one side down a chute (this might be the Starr chute/route). Once down, prance over the last few meters to the highpoint. Finally, pop open a beer on the summit and drink it (this is the most important part and the crux of the route).

Now for the "picture is worth a thousand words" part making all that text redundant:
Looking up at Clyde Minaret from just below the last lake. Line shows our path. Arrow points at chimney.

That was a fun day. Cool climb and great views. I can't believe it's taken me this long to check out those pictures. I'll see if I can post some from that day as well.
