After camping at Mono Lake, we got to Tioga Lake around 9ish and headed up into Glacier Canyon (contending with some mud on the way). Eventually we got above the tree line, and the views became quite nice.

After a bit of talus slogging, the mountain finally came into view:

We saw some small avalanches occur while we were snacking:

But we needed to be over there:

So off we went moving as fast as possible:
-
There was some ice showing through lower on the glacier.

-
We traversed above it to enter the Dana Couloir.

-
For the most part, it wasn't very icy.

But there was an icy section near the top.

Eventually we topped out on the Dana Plateau.

-
But we still had some more slogging to reach the summit.

After sitting on the summit for a bit, we heard voices and a couple appeared coming up on the touron trail. By then we were nearly finished with our first round of beers. Soon it started to snow a little.

But the views were still nice and the weather was actually quite pleasant.

The weather eventually started to deteriorate further, so we figured we'd better head down.
-
Still clear to the northwest though.

We finally meandered back down to Tioga Lake and headed for the Mobile station with just enough time to grab a bite before they started closing up. It was a pretty good day.

Nice. All I think is ski when I see that. But it's steep and I'd need my heavy downhills.

The white shirt is kinda camp. But it's the sort of thing that could turn into a hit. I'll try it out this summer.

That pretty much sums up the snow conditions.

That's his HS uniform shirt, it turns out.

I'm going to bleach it when I bleach Aahz's lab coat in the very near future. It is yellow in parts which really grinds my gears.

Isn't that cute. You're almost his mom.

That particular trailhead is about 4.5 hrs from our front door, so it's not exactly close (but on the other hand, I guess it's not that far away either).
