Are you ice climbing to the vodka bottle in the freezer?

I went mountainbiking yesterday. I tried out a new route which turned out wasn't actually bikeable, and ended up pushing my bike for 3 out of the 4,5 hours.

Anyway, I came across these guys. One doesn't often get this close - at least not when on a MTB. At the first sign or sniff of danger, they're off...

Pity I didn't a have a gun (or even a hunting license) or else this would have been my dinner. Father Christmas would have to employ some new ones for the coming season.

I also noticed what looked like open hunting graves in the area. These look like graves or short trenches. They were dug out several thousand years ago and the walls are reinforced with large square rocks. It's impressive that so many have lasted this long. The hunters would put branches, moss and others vegetation over the opening so the reindeer could see the danger. Then the hunters would chase a whole herd through the valley - and a few of the reindeer would get unlucky and fall into the graves or trenches.

There are about 30.000 wild reindeer in Norway. The guys in the pics above belong to a very small herd that inhabites these mountains. I've lived here for 3 summers and this is the first time I've seen any of them.
